Mindblowing Vortex water sculpture by William Pye

Posted: 13 Jan 2015 05:00 AM PST

William Pye often uses more science than art in most of his art installations, same is the case with this sculpture of a water vortex. The sculpture called Charybdis is named after the siren who was turned into a whirlpool by Zeus in Greek mythology. The transparent tank is made of acrylic polymer and the water is highly filtered to maintain the transparency. The vortex has different effect at various water levels, which can be adjusted.

The sculpture has been installed at Sunderland, Oman and Campinas in Brazil. This British artist graduated from Royal College in 1960s and have since then created world class sculptures most of them involving water.
